March 2022 saw the updated version of BS 8102:2022 Protection of below ground structures against water ingress Code of practice launch. Delta’s MD, Kevin Dodds, was privileged to Chair the Technical Committee to draw up the standard, with BSI staff facilitating the development and review. BS 8102:2022 builds on the solid foundations of BS 8201:2009 whilst recognising advancements in technologies from its predecessor and emphasising the importance of transparency between manufacturer and installer in verifying compatibility between products.

Waterproofing design/ design philosophy

BS 8102:2022 focuses on greater encouragement for the appointment of a waterproofing specialist to be appointed at the technical design stage and for the waterproofing specialist to take responsibility for the overall waterproofing design. All decision made by others, which may have an impact on the waterproofing design should be brought to the attention of the waterproofing specialist, design team and installing contractors. Final decisions and any recommendations should be approved by those taking overall responsibility for the design of the waterproofing solution. There is also greater emphasis on fully assessing the risks in relation to ground conditions, flooding and also, ground gas as part of the development of a robust waterproofing design.

Remembering that waterproofing products in the past were for a different time, and that products in the ‘now’ or even ‘future’ is based on experience. With Delta’s Technical Team having a collective 260 years of industry experience, there is little doubt where our number one driver for innovation steams.

So much happened in 2022, that it seems impossible the year was a mere 365 days!! One of more significant product launches was Delta Amphibia (a pre- and post- applied fully bonded waterproofing membrane with reactive core) this hydro-reactive, self-healing, self-sealing multi-layer waterproofing system can be applied on both vertical and horizontal areas of new construction. A key component in our product portfolio for continuous waterproofing solutions.

We’ve not only been launching new products, but we’ve also scored a BBA hat trick for our Delta MS 500 Fire Retardant membrane, Delta Amphibia, and Delta Roof Guard systems. All complimented in a new 135-page Product Catalogue, and three new RIBA approved CPD Seminars!!

2022 has been a wonderful year for the Delta Team. We cannot wait for 2023, we’ve got some exciting new products that we’re just crossing T’s and dotting I’s on – watch this space!
