Challenge

Great Western Studios, situated alongside the Grand Union Canal in Notting Hill, provide 107 workspaces for artists and creative businesses in a purpose-built new building which was opened in 2009.

Solution

Lang+Fulton were asked to supply custom-sized panels manufactured from Italia-80, one of the products from their steel louvred range.

The panels formed an effective visual screen to the roof-mounted air conditioning plant and ancillary services, which met with the approval of the local Planning Authority.

They were supplied in a hot-dip galvanised and polyester powder coated finish (RAL 7043) for low maintenance and durability.

Outcome

The panels were mounted onto a support structure designed by Big-Foot Systems, which ensured that there was no penetration of the surface roof membrane.

The free area of the panels was an important factor in reducing the potential wind loading.
