Challenge

The London Borough of Newham specified a Lang+Fulton design and supply package to provide a robust grating solution for a pedestrian railway bridge at Lettsom Walk, which previously suffered from vandalism.

Solution

After consultation with the Council's Technical Services Department, Piazza-25 with a 25x25mm aperture was proposed.

The grating was supplied as custom-sized screens and radiused panels, accurately measured to fit the existing structure. A hot-dip galvanised finish was a particular requirement with an additional polyester powder coating, for optimum resistance to corrosion.

Outcome

The small aperture of the Piazza-25 complied with the anti-projectile safety standards of Network Rail, while also providing a degree of through-visibility.
