Julian Hunter Architects contracted Diapo Ltd to create a cantilever helical glass staircase from a single steel stringer, for the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. The staircase had to accommodate a 4m diameter aquarium in its centre. The engineered box stringer was preconstructed to run around the outer edge of the staircase, with open side letter
