Bolton Gate Company were commissioned to manufacture and install bespoke folding industrial doors for the south entrance of Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, as part of a wider refurbishment programme. 

The doors needed to cope with heavy daily use, while also making a clear architectural statement for one of Scotland’s best known cultural venues. The result is stunning, and we’re very pleased with how it turned out. 

The challenge came from the detail, because each steel panel featured an intricate musical motif, meaning large numbers of exposed cut edges on relatively thin external steel. Traditional hot dip galvanising risked distortion, which could have affected the appearance and smooth operation of the bifold doors.

So instead, a low temperature zinc electroplating process was specified. This provided full corrosion protection across every cut edge, without heat related warping, preserving the sharpness of the design and ensuring long term durability in the Scottish weather!
