KeeGuard edge protection was installed by Safesite at Warwick Business School to allow safe access onto the roof areas.
Part of the University of Warwick, Warwick Business School has plant and machinery such as air conditioning units housed on its roofs which meant that safes access was required for maintenance of these units as well as for the roof itself. Fall protection was already provided by lifeline systems, but this required high levels of training and supervision so an alternative solution was required.
Safesite carried out g a survey and assessment of the roof areas and recommended KeeGuard free standing guardrail to provide edge protection on the roof, allowing maintenance work to be carried out in complete safety. As it is freestanding, KeeGuard provides permanent edge protection without the need fix the system into the roof’s structure or membrane. A further benefit of the system is that it can be radiused to curve back gently towards the roof to provide a more discreet solution which was a requirement of the University.
“We wanted to install collective protection on the roof but we needed a system which wouldn’t detract from the building’s aesthetics,” explains Kevin Richardson, Maintenance Planner, University of Warwick. “Safesite’s radiused KeeGuard system provided a cost-effective solution which met these particular requirements.”
