DOMUS' new London showroom in Eastcastle Street W1 is under construction and will open for the 2013 London Design Festival in September.

The 6000 sq.ft West End property, a former art gallery on two floors, is being transformed into an inspirational and practical space for the professional specifier. West_1 will showcase the latest technology and material innovations and technical solutions for tiles, stone and mosaic.

i-am Associates, the internationally renowned brand-experience gurus, and Domus' design consultants for over 10 years, were commissioned to provide the design concepts, interior layouts, display and signage elements for the new space.

The major part of the build is the removal of the stairway at the back of the old gallery and a new steel, glass and stone 2.5 metre wide staircase inserted in the middle of the showroom, opening up and revealing the lower ground space. Old dividing gallery walls have been taken out to provide easy access and viewing throughout.

We drew our inspiration from past experiences with the award winning Domus Clerkenwell showroom that opened in 2012 and integrated a fresh design concept, opposites-attract, that allowed us to exploit the contrasting and tactile surface textures of engineered tile with everyday building materials".

With the addition of Domus West_1 in September, there will be two central London specification hubs to serve the main architecture and design districts plus the Domus Battersea showroom which serves the many designers based south of the river.

For LDF, Domus West_1 will host 'A Doll's House' exhibition by property developers - Cathedral Group. 20 dolls houses designed and built by internationally reknown architects and artists including Zaha Hadid and David Adajaye will be on display and auctioned for charity. The London Design Festival 2013 (14-22 September) is city-wide and brings together exhibitions and events across London with major shows at the Victoria & Albert Museum [SW7], Southbank [SE1], 100% Design, Earls Court [SW5], Design Junction, at the Old Sorting Post Office [WC1], and SuperBrands at Tent, Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane [E1].
