Challenge

Halliday Meecham Architects won a competition in conjunction with Crest Nicholson for the mixed redevelopment of Weston Docks, Dover.

The objective was to reconnect Dover Town Centre to the waterfront with a development to attract visitors and residents alike.

The implemented proposals included a 100-berth marina, new residential and retail facilities, a deep-water berth and a new seafront promenade.

Solution

The new promenade introduced an enhancement of the pedestrian links to the old town, resurfacing, lighting, signage, street furniture and public artwork. Seaside shelters were also built, allowing visitors and residents to make the most of this improved space regardless of weather.

Rheinzink pre-weathered, blue-grey zinc cladding was selected for the leaf-shaped roofs of these shelters.
