Challenge
Covering an area of 2 hectares, Antelope Park in Southampton was once described as a "run-down site exuding a forbidding ambience". Now, at a cost of £25 million, HGP Architects has designed an impressive 16,000 m2 retail and leisure facility for Rokeby Developments.
Solution
Lang+Fulton prepared the design of the screening for the undercroft of the unit leased by The Range superstore. The galvanised panels were made from Stereo-4 grating with a 63x132mm aperture and covered an external area of 320m2.
An additional 200m2 of panels were used to form a secure internal roofed cage. Out of a total of 175 panels, 64 different sizes were required to provide the necessary infill, and were supplied with 6.3 tons of structural steelwork.
A 4.7m high sliding gate with a 7m wide opening for HGV access was delivered in a modular format for site assembly.
New Forest Fencing of Southampton carrried out the installation.
