Challenge

The Landhouse concept was designed by Mark Merer following a Land Art project in Seattle to develop a housing scheme in a rural area that blends into the landscape.

A prototype of the concept has been constructed in Somerton. It uses modular buildings techniques to make it cost effective to develop. A green roof finish was chosen as an alternative to standard housing estate finishes in order to help the Landhouse blend in with the surrounding natural countryside.

Solution

Lindum’s Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mat was selected as the best option in order to achieve this key brief.

The completed prototype now contains two artists’ studios and the Landhouse project offices.

Outcome

Mark Merer said, “We have been very pleased with the result from Lindum’s Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mat, particularly in the way it is has developed.

We have had a lot of interest in the roof. The north side of the roof has developed differently to the south giving more visual interest. The Landhouse is really blending into the landscape now.
