Torquay Community College is a brand new educational establishment designed to replace an old campus. It required appropriate insulation for the external walls.
Over 3500m2 of the 160mm thick, thermally-broken THERMOMASS® system was supplied to insulate the external walls to a very low 0.14W/m2K U-value. The panels also incorporated recycled aggregate, providing a high thermal mass, which improved the BREEAM rating. The panels were pre-decorated and maintenance-free on the outside and only required a coat of paint internally.
Whilst speed was an important issue on site, the BREEAM Excellent rating contributed to by the THERMOMASS® system was also a main driver for this project.
The project had an excellent health and safety record, which the THERMOMASS® system helped because there was no scaffolding involved with the installation of the system.
