The De Smet family has been crafting individual staircases for over 20 years and has now produced and installed more than 20,000 examples across Europe. The company currently employs 45 craftsmen and each staircase is truly a unique piece of art.

Uk commissions vary in value from circa £10,000 up to £130,000, with the average project costing around £20,000. Smet has a large staircase showroom in Northern Belgium, with 65 full height examples. It is easily accessible by Eurostar in 90 minutes, from London. Customers are particularly pleased with this feature, as it enables them to ‘pick and mix’ from designs.

The workshop is equipped with the latest machine tools and CAD linked systems, so each project is an individual commission. Smet exactly replicate stairwell dimensions and build the staircase in the workshop, then disassemble it into large sections, which will then fit into a project, like a piece of high class furniture.
