Overview

Westgate Global delivered a high-quality, custom-branded screening solution that not only met the structural requirements of Whyte & Mackay's malt distillery in Fettercairn but also enhanced the visual appeal for visitors.

Challenge

Whyte & Mackay Ltd, a leading name in the distillery industry, required a high-quality screening solution for its malt distillery in Fettercairn, Laurencekirk, Scotland. The project demanded a visually appealing yet structurally sound screen that could withstand exposure to the elements, particularly when the roof was removed. Additionally, the screen needed to feature the Fettercairn logo to enhance the overall aesthetic of the area.

Full structural calculations were necessary due to the exposure to high winds when the roof was removed. The screen had to be durable and fit for purpose, ensuring it could handle the elements effectively. Custom branding was essential, incorporating the Fettercairn logo into the design.

Solution

Westgate Global proposed its Flexiscreen solution, incorporating a zip door for worker safety and a metal door for security, to meet the specific requirements of the site. A detailed design process was initiated to ensure compliance with the required structural standards. The screen was engineered to withstand wind loads and environmental exposure while maintaining an attractive visual presentation. The Fettercairn logo was integrated into the screen to align with the distillery’s branding.

To address potential risks associated with the building’s age and the structural load on the roof during high winds, Whyte & Mackay made the proactive decision to install a full internal scaffolding structure behind the Flexiscreen. This precautionary measure provided added stability and peace of mind, ensuring the integrity of the building throughout the project without compromising the workflow. As a result, the installation progressed seamlessly from design through to completion, delivering a high-performing and visually tailored solution that met the client’s expectations while prioritising long-term structural care.

Outcome

The project resulted in an enhanced aesthetic appeal, maintaining a professional appearance that aligned with Whyte & Mackay Ltd’s brand image. Structural integrity was achieved, with the solution meeting all necessary calculations to ensure durability even when exposed to extreme conditions.
