Challenge
ASF was approached by Maxwell Pierce Architects to look at possible bespoke solutions to lighting a pontoon-based water crossing at the Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen.
Solution
After a consultation phase involving specification for both the balustrade spec and the lighting requirements, it was decided that ASF would adapt its stylish Ascot cast iron post to host a double unit Transit 25mm luminaire
The challenge of hosting these units in cast iron was overcome by machining an aluminium carrier that could slot and bond directly into the bollard face and angle the luminaires perfectly to get the desired throw and spread of light. A matchbox-sized driver was used inside each post so that the system is fully accessible once installed, and can be maintained, repaired and updated with ease if necessary.
The ASF post is manufactured in 100% recycled cast iron (made from old car brake discs), and the aluminium carrier from recycled sources and machined down to the required shape and size, before being anodised black.
Once installed it creates an environmentally-responsible, super-stylish meld of traditional and modern that offers an excellent lighting output good enough to allow vehicular and foot traffic at night.
