ASF were asked to design, manufacture and install a frameless glass balustrade for the viewing area overlooking The Queens House and City of London, at the site of The Statue of General James Wolfe, London.
Royal Parks architects made contact with ASF at planning stages to develop and design a suitable system.
A 3kN system was required due to the potential of crowd loading the area, and the system required integral handrailing to be used as a leaning rail and etchings to not only show the presence of an 'invisible' barrier but also host the Royal Parks logo.
The 3kN loading was achieved using a system that meets not only the EU standard, but also the more stringent British Standard. This is an element that is overlooked by many off the shelf glass balustrade companies as most of the testing is done in the EU and systems will more often than not fall short of the requirements in the UK.
This project is in a high profile area surround not only by the Wolfe Statue and overlooking the magnificence of The Queens House, but is also the site of the Prime Meridian, Flamstead House, the Royal Observatory , The Altazimuth Pavilion and the Royal Observatory Sundial so is an area of significant international importance.
