Context

BA systems worked with Pick Everard Architects to create balustrading with ornate infill panels plus railings for the Civic Centre Opportunities Site, a mixed use residential scheme constructed to support the regeneration of St Albans city centre.

The existing buildings and the redevelopment of the site will deliver 93 multipurpose residential units offering a mix of one- and two-bed apartments and parking, along with office and retail space.

Project detail

The client wanted to use the B30 frame and perforated infill panel system on the balconies of the building which showcase an ornate pattern which is built into the frame.

The client also used the B50 system as railings at the back of the building and on the top floor as balustrading for a terrace.

Bespoke pattern on balustrading

BA Systems had to design the bespoke pattern on the balustrading carefully to ensure that it was safe for users and made sure that the pattern did not have any sharp edges or rough surfaces that could potentially harm someone’s fingers. This required a precise and meticulous approach to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the balustrading.

Co-ordination of Juliet balcony fixings

Installing the Juliet balconies was challenging due to the presence of stone surrounds around all windows, requiring meticulous attention to detail and precision in the fixation process. It demanded a high level of skill and expertise to execute the task successfully.
