Context
Working with the architects, The Standard Patent Glazing Company created bespoke glazing for the revamped KOKO theatre and music venue in London.
Work undertaken
Glazing was designed for several areas, including two scalloped, low-level glazed canopies and a very complex, multi-tiered and multi-faceted Pavilion Atrium.
The company worked with a dedicated architect, and attended multiple design workshops facilitated on site at KOKO by Make One Group, the Principal Contractor.
System selected
The Heritage double-glazed system was used for internal habitable spaces; the Heritage single-glazed system was used to create the scalloped glazed canopies.
Heritage lead-covered steel patent glazing systems are a unique product dedicated to the original patent glazing systems of the late 19th Century. This system was specified as it is the go-to product for the replacement, refurbishment and upgrading of Grade I and II listed buildings, and buildings of historic value or other prestigious projects, making it the ideal solution for this project.
Project challenges
A staircase leading from the iconic copper-clad dome into to the Pavilion Atrium was the most challenging part of the project. This led to numerous bespoke interface details which were expertly executed by the company's in-house design team to truly represent Archer Humphryes' initial design intent without compromise. Without the expertise of the dedicated in-house design team and the continued innovative development of the Heritage system, listed projects like this would not be possible to replicate.
