Project

The Hôtels Baverez group entrusted DIRIM Architecture to specify a product to reproduce the original roof cladding for the iconic Hotel Regina in Paris, and they chose the RHEINZINK-Click Roll Cap System in prePATINA blue-grey.

Contractor ITEC Couverture was charged with refurbishing the roof of this historic building.

Background

Shortly after the first application of zinc in Lüttich the material became popular in Paris. In the mid-19th century, the city of Paris was experiencing a major growth in population. Napoleon III then commissioned the city planner Haussmann with plans for a large-scale renovation of Paris.

Haussmann chose zinc for the roofs of the innumerable new buildings that were being built. This was a new product that epitomised modern architecture. Today, many mansard roofs made of zinc dominate the city's skyline. The roof of the Hotel Regina near the famous Arc de Triomphe is an example of this.
