Requirement

The Manchester Royal Exchange Building, a Grade 2 listed former cotton trade building in the city centre, has undergone a complete renovation and has been converted into ultra-modern offices and shops.

Chris Jones of CP Decorators in Bolton approached Terraco to provide a solution for the plastering requirements in the building's stairwells.

He said: "Traditional dry powder plaster would not be suitable due to restricted access. The existing surface, old wallpaper would not be practical to remove due to limited access and a lack of water, it would also greatly increase the time to complete the project and increase the costs if the wallpaper had to be removed!"

Product supplied

Terraco recommended Handycoat® EZ Roll - a ready-mixed, roller-applied plaster with no product wastage. This was simply rolled onto the existing surface, then smoothed using traditional trowel / spatula methods, leaving a smooth white finish that needed little, if any, sanding and no primers - it was ready for decoration.

Testimonial

Janis and David, the contractors on site said: "Handycoat EZ Roll has saved them so much time on site as the product could be applied directly onto the existing surface, without the need to first strip off the wallpaper. Handycoat EZ Roll is very easy to use and leaves a great finish that is easy to sand and decorate, using Handycoat EZ Roll has made the job a lot easier and faster to complete and made the project a pleasure to work on."
