Context

Primark's flagship store on Edinburgh's premier shopping street was refurbished in 2016. Works included the installation of stainless steel grating, supplied by Lang+Fulton, as flooring within the window display.

As well as its stylish, contemporary appearance, the grating serves as a lightwell, introducing natural daylight to the shopping area in the basement.

Product details

  • Stainless steel grating: PL/SS - 33 x 66 / 50 x 3 / 10 x 2
  • Aperture: 33 x 66mm
  • Bearing bar: 50 x 3mm
  • Transverse bar: 10 x 2mm

This floor grating is a pressure-locked grating. Panels are constructed entirely from flat bars by pressing an arrangement of cross bars into notched bearing bars. The bars are further secured by a framing bar, producing a custom-sized grating panel with perfectly formed intersections.

This manufacturing method is extremely adaptable and the production process can provide bespoke panels to non-standard specifications of weight, aperture and performance for heel-proof, ventilation and heavy-duty applications, as well as a serrated version with anti-slip properties.
