Challenge

Body Zone Fitness, an independent fitness facility in Newcastle city centre, operates within a mixed-use building. The gym has approximately 200 pieces of fitness equipment housed over two levels and well over 2000 active members.

Landlord, Sunil Vadehra, was keen to alleviate noise and vibration disturbance caused by gym activities to other tenants operating in this shared commercial space and turned to TVS and parent company, Total Vibration Solutions Limited, for help.

Solution

After the initial assessment of the problems and onsite testing, an acoustic build-up of materials for installation in the free weights section of the gym was specified. These materials had proven to reduce both impact shock and noise caused by falling heavy objects such as barbells and dumbbells in this gym.

TVS SPORTEC Style Tiles were fitted on top of the under-layers and this provided exercisers with a solid performance platform for heavy weight lifting to take place safely.

Throughout the other areas of the gym TVS SPORTEC Color-15 rolled rubber was specified. This type of gym flooring is extremely durable, tough and highly resistant to mechanical wear. It is also low maintenance, and was available in the preferred colour choice of the customer. This rubber flooring provides ample cushioning underfoot for exercisers to work out safely.

Outcome

TVS helped Sunil by first confirming what was causing the problems and then providing an effective solution. As a result the noise and vibration was controlled in the free weights area of the gym and neighbouring tenants were not disturbed.

Additionally, the gym floor finishes provided non-slip surfaces to exercise on, as well as, long-term protection to the original subfloor.
