Metal meshes

(1)

The four main metal meshes - welded, woven, expanded metal and perforated - are widely used in architectural, decorative and industrial applications. Read More

They tend to be produced in 304 or 316 stainless steel and galvanised steel, as well as copper, brass, zinc and aluminium.

Expanded metal mesh is specified by architects to produce a distinctive visual statement. Cladding, sunscreens, suspended ceilings and balustrade infills are some of its applications.

Welded wire mesh is particularly robust as the horizontal and vertical wires are welded together at each intersection. It is used to make perimeter fences and gabions.

Decorative woven wire mesh tends to be lightweight and flexible, making it easy to handle and work. It is used to make insect screens, fire guards and decorative grilles.

Wirecloth is used in industry for screening and filtration applications. Aperture sizes from 10cm down to 1 micron are possible.

With perforated metal, holes are punched out of metal sheets. Round, square and hexagonal holes are usually standard, whilst decorative shapes may also be offered.

Specific meshes are manufactured for rockfall protection and window security applications.
