Context

The owners of a private bungalow on the Isle of Wight were having problems with water ingress through the building's existing concrete block and render finish, which had become porous.

Solution

L J Teal started by chipping off the existing paint and render, stabilising the wall with bonding agents and then installing a two-coat render system.

The contractor then fitted 38x50mm battens to which were attached the Cembrit Plank weatherboards, including ventilated starter profiles to ensure correct air flow behind the weatherboards.

The original roof overhang presented a problem since the gable roof ends did not extend out far enough to accommodate the cladding. The contractor overcame this problem by installed a new PVC fascia on the gable ends.

Outcome

The Cembrit Plank weatherboards were intalled quickly and easily, with the project being completed by April 2018. The homeowners are delighted with the new cladding and the house now has an attractive, weatherproof exterior.

Key benefits of Cembrit Plank

  • Low maintenance fibre cement planks
  • No rotting, rusting, warping, cracking, overheating
  • Resistant to rain and sun damage
  • Non-combustible
  • Has the appearance of timber
  • No toxic preservatives are required
  • 15-year warranty
