L-50TB service stair access roof hatch; BilGuard 2.0 fixed roof hatch railing; LadderUP® safety posts
Bilco UK supplied roof access products with fall arrest protection solutions for the £200 million redevelopment of a design and engineering headquarters in the Midlands.
The new HQ will bring designers, engineers, purchasing and support staff together under one roof, which happens to be one of the largest timber roofs in Europe.
Roof access hatches
Seven roof hatches were installed.
L-50TB Service Stair Access Roof Hatch provides a solution for installations where frequent access to the roof area is required via full-sized stairs with standard headroom.
E-50TB Roof Access Hatches was for areas that would be used to provide access directly onto the roof, allowing small pieces of equipment to be moved on and off the roof.
All the roof hatches have thermally broken covers and frame design for superior thermal performance.
Ladder safety posts
With safety a primary consideration throughout the building, Bilco supplied four LadderUP® Safety Posts to ensure safe, easy ladder access through the roof access hatches.
The LadderUP® comprises a telescopic post that is mounted permanently to the top two rungs of any fixed ladder. It provides a secure hand-hold and enables the user to retain three points of contact on the ladder and to enter or exit the opening safely - in an upright and balanced position.
Roof hatch railing for fall protection
The addition of the BilGuard 2.0 fixed roof hatch railing system for each hatch ensures there is a permanent means of fall protection in place. The aluminium rail construction of BilGuard 2.0 is strong and easy to install to new or existing roof hatches and smoke vents and has a 5-year warranty.
According to the latest figures published by the Health and Safety Executive, falls from height accounted for over 24% of fatal injuries in 2017/2018. Taking the necessary steps to minimise the risk of accidents by ensuring a safe rooftop environment is a priority that can be easily addressed with the installation of the right safety products.
