Birds Eye required to carry out some works to an existing process area at their factory in Lowestoft. This involved removing some existing masonry walls and installing new walls and doors. All of this needed to be achieved without contaminating the existing process plant. Westgate was asked to facilitate a solution.
Flexiscreen® was recommended as it can easily be installed at an angle, which is an advantage over conventional temporary screening methods. This meant that the final screen could be hung from the ceiling and then slope out by 1.5m before being battened to the floor, enabling Birds Eye to screen off the exact area requiring the works, without taking up lots of existing floor space.
Flexiscreen® fits seamlessly floor to ceiling without gaps and its panels connect using a V-overlap system (creating an over 99% dust-tight seal) to make an ideal screening solution for this project and other building works within the food manufacturing sector.
Another significant benefit of Flexiscreen® is that bespoke designs can be profiled and then manufactured off-site for a quick and clean onsite installation, thereby reducing downtime onsite which is also very valuable to food manufacturers. It also comes in a range of colours and materials dependent on the project / client needs.
A zip access doorway was incorporated to enable access into the work area for plant and equipment, without compromising on the dust-tight seal.
Westgate installed the main project and then returned to the site to remove the end elevation and extend the screen to incorporate another area. This was easily achieved because Flexiscreen® can be efficiently installed, adapted and removed without lasting damage to the premises. Quote to installation took 4 weeks and the full installation took just 3 days.
“Having worked with Westgate previously, it was no surprise that their Flexiscreen® dust screen and expertise were ideal for our requirements. The screen did exactly what we needed it to do and offered us robust protection against contamination control during refurbishment works.”
