An oak conservatory was required for a local, private customer to replace a plastic one which was past its best. After much discussion and sharing of images with Handspring Design a cruck design in oak was chosen to mirror the detail in the windows of this very old and quite dark farmhouse.
The frame is all green oak, traditionally jointed, on top of dwarf brick walls. Double argon-filled glazing with kiln dry oak cover boards are used for windows, following the shape of the frame. The roof has 150mm insulation and slates to finish. Oak doors and windows were made by a local specialist.
The conservatory is likely to become the client's main dwelling space, particularly as it opens south into the lovely garden.
