Green-tree intensive roof garden substrate; gtRoofdrain
Green-tree intensive roof garden substrate and gtRoofdrain have been installed at the prestigious Four Pancras Square development in London.
The Grade A office building is located to the north of the existing King's Cross railway station, on the new Pancras Square. The 170,000 sq ft 10-floor building is the final part of a two million sq ft cluster of nine office buildings south of Regent’s Canal.
The landscaping work was undertaken by Kent-based landscape contractor Willerby Landscapes, with Green-tech suppling its own brand Green-tree Roof Garden intensive substrate for the rooftop containerised planting scheme. 136m3 of substrate were supplied for the rooftop containerised planting scheme. The substrate is a blend of lightweight aggregate and award-winning Green-tree topsoil. It was ideal for this project due to its lightweight texture and good water-holding capacity which ensures healthy plant establishment in harsh rooftop environments.
To allow for the collection and storage of water to irrigate plants during low rainfall periods but also provide a continuous drainage layer across the roof structure, 460m3 of 25mm gt Roofdrain was also incorporated into the project. gt Roofdrain forms a lightweight high-performance drainage layer with integrated filter geotextile. The core acts as a water reservoir to sustain plant growth in drier periods.
“Green-tree Green Roof Substrates are sought after and used for roof garden and containerised projects due to the lightweight and workable properties of the product. They have been used in a number of high profile projects across the country and have received great praise from architects and contractors“. gt Specifer Project Development Manager, Barry Browne
