Drum & Monkey Pub
Newton PAC-500 System
Ground Gas Mitigation experts Prestige Air, in partnership with Newton Specialist Basement Contractor (NSBC) Protectahome Ltd, were consulted about the treatment of a contaminated cellar in the Drum and Monkey Pub in Worcester.
The existing basement had been contaminated with Kerosene which had leached into the cellar area, leaving it completely unusable.
Prestige Air and Protectahome designed and installed the patent protected Newton 500-PAC (Positive Air Curtain) System which deals with all forms of ground gas contamination, and the BBA certified Type C Newton System 500 waterproofing.
Initially, Prestige Air designed and installed the air delivery duct and internal probe network which formed the portal for the Newton 500-PAC System. The ducting was installed at high level in the basement and modified on site to deliver an even distribution of air behind the waterproofing membrane system.
Protectahome then designed and installed a Newton System 500 waterproofing system. Newton 508 gas rated membrane was applied to the vertical retaining walls of the cellar and the interconnecting corridor before being sealed to the PAC active ducting. Newton Basedrain and Newton 508 membrane was fitted and double sealed on the floor with Newton Overtape, leading to a Titan Pro Sump and Pump for water and gas removal.
Once installed, Prestige Air performed their gas integrity test behind the membrane by delivering specialist tracer gas under pressure. The tracer gas was then electronically monitored by Prestige across all fixing points and seals of the membrane system to ensure gas integrity was achieved. This innovative and highly effective technique allowed for any defects in the installation to be identified and repaired prior to all internal finishes being installed.
With the PAC gas and Newton System 500 installed this previously unusable cellar was protected against hydrocarbon contamination as well as being waterproofed to a habitable Grade 3 BS 8102:2009 within one month of the start of works, which significantly reduced downtime for the landlord.
