Low maintenance grass mats are designed for use on extensive green roofs with a minimum substrate depth of 100-125mm. They are comprised of a strong, felt mat seeded with an established mixture of slow-growing, low maintenance and drought tolerant grasses.
As well as being drought tolerant, the grass is disease resistant and prefers low fertility and only requires minimal water, fungicide and fertiliser inputs.
Low maintenance grass mats require less mowing than traditional turf mixtures and there will be fewer clippings to remove. If it is left unmown, the turf will flower between late May and early June to produce decorative seed heads, growing to a height of around 200mm.
The surface should then be cut in Autumn and the clippings should be removed.
